Regulation

1. Organization

C.I.C.L.O is organized by the Associação de Cultura Musical de Lousada and is open to national and foreign singers aged between 18 and 36, at the time of the competition.

2. Awards

2.1 Monetary values

1st prize .......... 6000€ + Certificate

2nd prize .......... 4000€ + Certificate

3rd prize .......... 2000€ + Certificate

Audience Award .......... 1000€ + Certificate

Prize for the best accompanist pianist .......... 1000€ + Certificate

2.2 Special Awards

2.2.1 Best Portuguese Interpreter Award (male)

2.2.2 Best Portuguese Interpreter Award (female)

2.3 Award recipients will be required to submit a tax residency certificate.

The winners may have access to other Special Prizes awarded by various institutions promoting opera performances.
These prizes will only be awarded to candidates who have reached the final.

3. Contests and Program

3.1 All the phases of the competition are public and the Associação de Cultura Musical de Lousada reserves the right to record in video, image and audio at all stages of the contest.

3.2 The organization reserves the right to use audio/video recordings to promote this contest or future contests.

3.3 Elimination: presentation of 2 (two) operas arias by each contestant.

3.4 Semifinal: presentation of 2 (two) opera arias by each semi-finalist.

3.5 Final: presentation of 2 (two) opera arias for each finalist.

3.6 Candidates must present the 6 operas arias in the original language and key (in at least 2 differents languages). They must also be interpreted from memory. Competitors can not repeat the same aria twice.

3.7 The scores of the arias to be performed should be sent to the e-mail geral@ciclolousada.pt, until June 7th.

3.8 All the rounds will be held in Lousada, district of Porto, in Portugal.

4. Contest Program

4.1 Round days

4.2 No changes to the program presented in the application will be taken into account as of June 07, 2024.

 

4.3 Any change must be communicated, by june 07, 2024, by email to geral@ciclolousada.pt

4.4 The drawing of the order of presentation will be held on 24 june at 2pm in the competition secretariat. The competitors will be informed by email.

 

4.5 Competitors must present themselves at the competition secretariat 1 hour before their performance. They must be accompanied by the identification document.

4.6 Candidates who have won an international opera competition (1st prize) in the last two years will be directly admitted to the semi-final, upon presentation of documentation proving the fact, delivered as an annex to the application form.

4.7 Rehearsals for the qualifying rounds, with the pianists provided by the competition, will take place on 01 and 02 July.

4.8 The 4th and 6th of July will be reserved for rehearsals with the candidates who have qualified for the next stage.

5.1 The judges who may have a family or educational connection with any of the contestants will not participate in the voting in relation to them.

5.2 The president of the jury will be entitled to the casting vote, if the situation arises.

5.3 In the final exam, the public will have the possibility to vote for the attribution of the public prize.

5.4 All candidates who present themselves in the final round and are not awarded will receive a certificate of merit.

5.5 The jury may decide not to award one or more prizes if it considers that the candidates do not reach the expected level.

6. Admission of Competitors - Singers

6.1 The competition is open to singers of all vocal registers and all nationalities. Ages must be between 18 and 36 years old at the beginning of the contest.

6.2 All candidates must send to the email geral@ciclolousada.pt, until may 31, 2023, the following documents:

-The registration form duly completed;

- Copy of identification document (CC or passaport);

- A recent photo;

- A short curriculum (in portuguese, spanish, english, italian or french);

- A copy of the bank transfer receipt for the registration fee, non-refundable;

- Candidates must present 6 opera arias from the international repertoire, this program must include at least two different languages ​​in the first performance carried out by each competitor.

6.3 The registration fee is:

  • 80€ for the first 50 registrations (Special price to mark ACML's 50th anniversary)

  • 100€ for registrations made until May 15th

  • 120€ for registrations made from May 16th to May 31st

6.4 The delivery of the candidate's registration form, duly signed, implies acceptance of all the rules.

7. Admission of Competitors - Accompanying Pianists

7.1 Candidates for the prize for best accompanist pianist must be between 18 and 36 years old at the date of the competition (july 4, 2022), must fill in the respective application form and they must accompany one of the singers competing in the Lousada Lyric Singing Competition.

7.2 Pianists who accompany one or more singers competing in the Lousada International Lyric Singing Competition may be candidates fot the award for best accompanying pianist.

7.3 For the attribution of this prize, the eliminatory and semi-final events will be taken into account. Thus, pianists who accompany singers who are excluded in the eliminatory tests will have the aforementioned singer in the semi-final tests, with the singer only having the status of collaborator and only the pianist will be evaluated.

7.4 All candidates must send to the email, geral@ciclolousada.pt, until may 31, 2022, the following documents:

- The registration form duly completed;

- Copy of identification document (CC or passaport);

- A recent photo;

- A short curriculum (in portuguese, spanish, english, italian or french);

- A copy of the bank transfer receipt for the registration fee (50 euros), non-refundable.

7.3 The delivery of the candidate's registration form, duly signed, implies acceptance of all the competition rules.

8. Logistical Support

8.1 All information on available accommodation in the region will be provide, and the competition secretariat will be able to arrange reservations.
